Statement of Values

Mission Statement for The Jackson County Democratic Committee

The Jackson County Democratic Committee convenes to unite our neighbors in common goals for the common good.
Our members have their own histories, ideals, hopes, and beliefs, but we work together as co-authors of American progress, to bring about a more perfect union, here in Jackson County and across our nation.

Our shared American values:
We believe access to public education from Pre-K to college would radically improve opportunities for the next generation and beyond.
We believe that no one should die or go broke due to inability to pay for treatment of an illness or disability, and that access to affordable healthcare is fundamental to a just society.
We believe in taking strong action as caretakers of a shared planet, and that ignoring environmental issues is a real threat to the safety and health of our children and grandchildren.
We believe in equal treatment for people of every race, color, creed, gender, faith, sexuality, or checking account balance. We’re for equal rights, fairness and justice for all. Period.
We believe that there is common ground for gun safety reform to keep dangerous weapons out of the hands of criminals and support universal background checks for all firearm sales.
We believe that what we do to aid the least powerful among us strengthens our entire society, and that no one—no senior citizen, no disabled worker, no returning soldier, no innocent child—should be homeless or hungry in the United States of America. Our shared welfare and social security mean just that.
We believe that a living minimum wage created the most prosperous era for the American middle class and that raising wages helps to strengthen families and businesses.
We believe in our country’s need to defend itself, but also that unending war is not the solution to our fears and often compounds our social and economic problems at home.
We believe women should have control of the choices they have to make to their lives.
We believe that the rules governing immigration need to be sensible and realistic, because America is a diverse nation, a country made up mostly of immigrants who have made this country home.
We work together, because democracy won't work any other way.
